After drawing on Rika's pop up store window I was asked to make them an invitation to their new guest house Maison Rika

These are my submissions for the Folio Society illustration competition.
The book to be illustrated was The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter.
Lovely but very grim and poetic fairytales for adults.
The chosen stories were Puss in boots, In company of wolves and The bloody chamber.
So here are the illustrations for the short stories and the cover design.

A dragon is the best present

When I was 9 I made a painting of a dragon and it's still on the wall in my old room
My little brother is obsessed by the painting and has been nagging me to make a drawing with a dragon for him
I'm not a big fan of neon colors combined with fantasy figures anymore but I did promise him a drawing so this is what I made

The Horsy Who Lost His Head

I wrote a little story about a horse who unfortunately lost his head
his friend Pauly helps him out but maybe he was a little bit too charitable.

       

Falconry

For a school project I interviewed a falconer in Belgium, he has 20 birds at home varying from huge American eagles, eagle owl's (aka bubo bubo), griffon vulture (aka gyps fulvus) and small falcons.
I talked with him about the characters of his birds and his relationship with them.

I ended up making 4 portraits
